Mel Reid, a vice captain on Anna Nordqvist’s 2026 European team, spelled it out on her Quiet Please podcast with Kira Dixon: players get “all of our flights paid, all of our hotels, we get an allowance, a tiny, tiny allowance, but your family is taken care of. Immediate family is taken care of. They get gifting.”
The kit is substantial. PING is dressing Team Europe at Bernardus with three outfit changes a day plus a backpack, shoe bag, valuables pouch and a special edition carry bag printed with tulips for the Dutch host. B. Draddy and Zero Restriction supply the United States team for 2026 and 2028.
What the week does not carry is Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking points, and nothing lands on the LPGA money list. Beyond the result, it counts for nothing on a player’s record.
Why There is No Solheim Cup Prize Money
The event copied the Ryder Cup when it launched in 1990, including the rule that players are not paid. They compete for a country and a continent, not a payout. Selection is treated as the reward.
The week itself is not short of money. The Ladies European Tour expects the 2026 matches to be worth around €17 million to the region around Bernardus, with more than 80,000 fans on site from over 40 countries and a broadcast reaching 620 million homes across 155 territories. None of that reaches the 24 competitors.
Players have rarely pushed back. Laura Davies, the all time Solheim Cup points leader with 25, told Sky Sports she would happily play again for nothing: “I would love to have played another Solheim Cup. It’s just the biggest honor you’ll ever have in your career.”

The PGA of America announced on 16 December 2024 that each American Ryder Cup player and the captain would receive $500,000 from the 2025 matches at Bethpage Black. Of that, $300,000 goes to charity and $200,000 is a personal stipend. Since 1999 the figure had been $200,000 per player, all of it directed to charity. The stipend was the new part, and PGA of America president Don Rea said no players had asked to be compensated.
European Ryder Cup players still receive nothing, and have said they want it that way. Rory McIlroy said he would “pay for the privilege” of playing, arguing the Ryder Cup and the Olympics are golf’s purest events “because no money is involved.” Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton agreed. Nothing has been announced for Europe ahead of Adare Manor in 2027.
What a 2026 Solheim vice captain said about it
Reid was blunt about the American stipend on the same podcast: it “pisses me off. Like, it really pisses me off.” Her argument was that the PGA of America could have covered expenses the way the Solheim Cup does, instead of creating a payment that handed Europe a talking point.
Neither the LPGA nor the Ladies European Tour has signalled any plan to pay Solheim Cup players. The 2026 matches run on the same basis as every edition before them.

Korda’s cheque at Riviera came from a record $12.5 million purse and is the largest in women’s major history. At the FM Championship at TPC Boston on 30 August, the last LPGA start before Bernardus, the purse was $4.4 million and Ruoning Yin took $660,000.
Same players, same season, different week. That gap is why Solheim Cup prize money keeps coming up, and why the 2025 Ryder Cup decision caused an argument. The question was never whether these players need the money. It was whether paying them changes what the week means.
What the Winning Team Actually Gets
The Solheim Cup trophy and two years of bragging rights. No cash prize, no bonus pool. The trophy was designed by Waterford’s Billy Briggs, stands 19 inches tall and weighs more than 20 pounds. Its 8 inch mahogany base carries engraved plates recording every winning team, score and venue.
